April 13, 2012

This is my first "blog post" and  I'm not sure how this is going to work, but I will give it a try.  All of the ladies that I am quilting with have blogs, so I thought I'd like to have one too.

Most of them use it as sort of a diary.  Hmmmmm?  Do I want to do that?  Not sure.  Here goes.........

Today, we woke up to snow!  It's April 13 for heavens sake!!  I live in a small town in California in the Sierras at 2000 feet elevation.  It's not suppose to snow this low this late in the year.  It was beautiful just the same.  Now in the afternoon it has melted off.

This is Friday.....I love Fridays -- get to look forward to doing what I love best. (No work for 2 days) I will clean in the morning and then sew for the most of the day........yeah!!

I have a quilt square to finish for the "quilt along" that I am doing.....here is a pic of March's square that I did.

It is really fun.  Every month we do a different square.  Jo's Country Store is where the group started, and Jo picks the pattern for the month and then after everyone submits their square she has a drawing and picks a winner for the month.  She gives away beautiful prizes, and this last month I won a prize!! Yippee!!  I won a little quilt hanger like this one in the picture....so exciting!

We have a yahoo group for some of the ladies participating in this quilt-along, and although I haven't personally met any of them, I feel like I know them and they are all very supportive of each other.

Also, this month was my granddaughter, Makenzie's 6th birthday, she loves Dora the Explorer, so I made her a Dora doll and a Tote Bag.  She "kissed" the Dora when she opened it........made me happy 8-)  Here are photos of Dora and the Tote.

My granddaughter, Megan's birthday is also this month, she is going to be 25 (oh my!).  I'm working on a gift for her also, and will post a pic of that after the birthday.

I love reading what other quilters are doing, and I have been following Bonnie Hunter's blog lately.  I like how she writes - makes you feel like you are there. It would be great to see her in person.  My daughter Michelle is going to be able to see her at her guild's meeting later this month....lucky her!!

Michelle has a great blog Michelle's Quilts and Stuff and she is my inspiration for this quilting bug that I have recently caught.......look and see what she does....you won't believe it!!

Well, maybe this blogging won't be so difficult after all.  Starting was difficult, because I didn't know where to start........I guess you just start!!

  5. Welcome to Blog-Land, Jan... and congratulations on your first post! Blogging is like journaling except you get to share what you're doing with others who have similar interests. The support I've found here has been wonderful and I'm sure you will have the same experience as well.

Michelle sent me to see what you're up to.... it's fun to see others of my generation embracing technology!

  8. Just came from Michelle's blog. I love what she does and I will enjoy following along on your projects, too. I love your little quilt square. Several bloggers I follow are doing those and I really like them! I have only been blogging 11 months, so I'm not too experienced at it, but it sure has been fun, and you meet so many nice quilters.

  10. I'm one of Michelle's quilting friends from Delaware....I "met" her through our blogs before she moved to Delaware and was so happy to meet her in person then. I've been a bad blogger lately as I've not posted that often. Good luck with your blog...it's fun to meet people this way!
